George A. SHENKLE
Company E
508th Parachute Infantry Regiment
82nd Airborne Division

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE SIR

Portbail, June 2, 2014.
Meeting with American WWII veterans and students from Portbail

Born in Woodbury, New Jersey, on October 13, 1921. George traveled throughout his Childhood, attending many different schools and never really having chance to make great friends at a young age.

He was compelled to join the Airborne when he saw that a guy he worked with had joined, as well as seeing a promotional video on the Paratroops. With his Regiment, the 508th, George Shenkle jumped into Normandy on D-Day and into Holland during Operation Market Garden. George was later wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and awarded with the Purple Heart.

Over the years, George has written his memories down as he remembers them. For a man of his age George is incredibly clued up on technology and as such this has helped him store these memories, in the form of E-mails he has written over the years and his many letters to and from fellow veterans. He has been a strong supporter of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regimental Association.

George A. Shenkle is awarded with:
Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Occupation Medal, Victory Medal, European Theater Medal, Croix De Guerre France and a Presidential Unit Citation with the 508th PIR.
