Biography and Wartime Service
Samuel J. Bifano and his twin brother Joseph were born on September 20, 1917, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, to Fenicia 'Fannie' Mancuso (1895-1984) and Giuseppe Epifano (1889-1958), a couple hailing from Italy. Samuel's premature born twin brother, Joseph Epifano, died on September 21, 1917.
Samuel J. Bifano joined the Army on 21 October 1942. He was Seriously Wounded in Action by a German artillery shell on 9 July 1944 while B Battery was firing in support of the infantry attack on Sainteny. KIA by the same shell were, SSgt Andrew J. Giannotti, Pvt Richard Fuschillo and Pvt James Staggs, all from one gun crew in B Battery, 324th FA Bn. Samuel Bifano, T/Sgt at that time was the hydraulics mechanic for the four 155's in B Battery. He rejoined the 324th in late January 1945 and was discharged December 5, 1945
After the war Samuel Bifano married Lucy M. Tardio on September 8, 1947.
Samuel J Bifano died on November 16, 1994, in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, when he was 77 years old. He was survived by his wife Lucy Bifano (1919-2010)
